Jewelry

Some of you already know that I make jewelry.  Nothing expensive, just some costume jewelry.  But I enjoy it and have made a couple dollars doing it.  I'm still experimenting with the different beads and layouts, but I'm not very creative and I tend to make the same kind.  I would love to think outside the box and make something really different.  They have so many pretty beads now and all sorts of colors.  Who knows, I may be a famous jewelry designer some day...LOL!  Probably NOT!  haha!

Can you tell there isn't much excitement right now...I'm writing about jewelry...lol.

Take care and enjoy this gorgeous weather!  ;-)

History: It's a family thing

My mom and I are big into Family History or Genealogy as most of the world calls it.  We love cemeteries and dark, dirty basements in court houses, ruining our eyes and getting sick looking at microfilm for hours.  All for just a tiny bit of information on some part of our family.  But we LOVE it!

After spending so many hours and even days on finding different parts of my family, I feel like I know each one of my ancestors.  I desperately want to meet them all and find out what kind of person each one was.  My mom takes care of her side of the family so I work on dad's side mostly.  I feel like I know them better.  But the funny thing is, part if it is the SAME family!  Yes, that's what I said.  My mother and father are 4th cousins.  They shared the same 4th great grandfather.  We never would have known this had we not been doing family history.  This grandfather built a home on the Perry/Washington County line in Southern Illinois and it still stands today along with the barn he built.  It was handed down thru a few generations and then was sold to another family.  My sister and I decided to be brave and drive up the driveway to take pictures.  We got caught...LOL!  The owner came out and was very nice and let us look around.  He showed us the papers on the house and there were the signatures of my great, greats.  That was awesome!

Built in the 1840's.  It used to have a summer kitchen just across from the back door.

This is the house that Arthur built.

I took my kids with me one day to check out some cemeteries.  My son was not excited at all.  "Mom can we take a book?"  "Yes, you can stay in the truck and read."  My daughter was ready to go.  We get to the first cemetery and both kids jump out of the truck and start looking at names on tombstones.  In about 5 minutes the Spirit of Elijah had done its thing.  My son says, "Mom, this is so much fun!"  Imagine that.  Books were forgotten.  We went to 3 cemeteries and looked for a 4th one.

I have been searching for names since I was in high school and that was some 30 odd years ago.  I have found that I have Irish, German, Native American, and possibly African American blood.  If you have never searched for family members, I would recommend giving it a shot.  You will see what I mean.

One of their twelve children.

In our church (Latter-day Saints), we believe that those who have passed before us and never got to hear the gospel in this life, can still have that option.  Therefore we perform baptisms by proxy through the proper priesthood authority,  giving those ancestors a chance to accept the gospel into their lives.  We do this in our temples.

Find out where you came from.  You'd probably be amazed!

Ciao!

Our-True-Identity

Our-True-Identity

A Necessary Journey

Well, according to my doctor, I have some issues that need to be taken care of.  And by issues I mean health problems.  We have the normal discussions about what I need to do to fix these issues, and then I go home and think, "How do I make myself do this?"  Well, I guess I'll just have to DO IT, as President Spencer W. Kimball used to say.  I love him by the way.  He was great.  For those who don't know who he is, he was one of our Presidents of the LDS church.

So here is what I have been working on.  Maybe by writing this down where everyone can see it I might be a little bit more motivated.  I get on my treadmill every morning while the kids are getting ready for school.  They get themselves ready, so I don't have to do it.  I walk for 30 minutes every day Monday thru Friday and give myself the weekends off.  I have to watch my carbs, so I count carbs.  50gm of carbs a meal and a 15gm snack between meals.  Now, I'm not perfect at this, but I'm trying hard.  Did I tell you that B and I are having a contest to see who can lose 20 lbs?  It's anybodys guess who will win.  So this is my health plan and I'm hoping it works.

And just a little comment about the weather.  "WHY DOES WINTER HAVE TO COME?"

Ciao! until next time.

Getting started

I'm not really sure where to start.  I'm learning as I go.  So here goes...

For those who really know me, know that I LOVE the south.  This would explain the title of my blog.   B and I plan on retiring there someday.  One of my two brothers lives in the south and I love to go and visit.  Even though I haven't been in several years.  I love anything southern.

I am a Latter-day Saint or "Mormon" for those who don't know what a Latter-day Saint is.  I am a Christian, and I believe in Jesus Christ.  I am not very good at telling other people about being LDS, only because I am very shy and don't like to be the center of attention in any way.

I have a great family and I wish that we were all closer.  I miss all my siblings a lot.  When we do get together, it is VERY noisy.

This was my first attempt.  Hope you enjoyed and I'll see you next time.  Ciao!
